The AVM Avant-Garde

Every new year brings new models of cars. Most of the vehicles are only slightly modified and offer no substantial improvement. However, this year is different. The brand new motor company Auto-Vations has just appeared on the scene with the revolutionary 2011 Avant-Garde!
Despite the controversy surrounding its production and release, the Avant-Garde lives up to its name and dishes out more than expected. Where it once failed the original road tests, the Avant-Garde has more than made up for the lost time.
The new AXIS system has been improved and works even better with an up-to-date processor and increase memory capabilities. The destinations can be preset and each respond to voice commands. The AXIS demonstrations can be viewed at viewaxis.com.
One of the most skeptical additions to the car is the motion sensors surrounding the vehicle. They create a barrier around the Avant-Garde, protecting the driver from the surrounding traffic. Originally, they were the source of problems, but the engineers have strengthened their capabilities and are considered one of the safest vehicles on the road.
For those who are old-fashioned or don’t trust the car driving itself, have the ability to take control anytime during the drive, which appeals to even the most skeptical of the Avant-Garde’s critics.
Technical aspects aside, the Avant-Garde is not only quality manufacturing; it’s also fun! This vehicle reaches new heights by adding a gaming system and blue-ray player to the main console for those long road trips. They’ve even made a deal with Netflix where every buyer is given an unlimited subscription where the movies are downloaded immediately via the AXIS system…all at the touch of a button.
Don’t believe me? Check out the selection at Netflix.com. Still not impressed? The Avant-Garde gets technical by still offering the best warrantee in the business! To break it down, if you aren’t satisfied, you get a FULL refund. (For a full view of the warrantee go to autovations.com) This alone has caused even the harshest critics of the Avant-Garde to give some respect.
This turn has not surprised Auto-Vations Inc., who had the utmost faith that their product would surprise and awe the automotive industry. They have planned to be in business for a long time and the world will wait expectantly for their next idea. In the mean time, the Avant-Garde gets a big seal of approval. I end with a challenge directly from an Avant-Garde ad…what are you waiting for? Go.

Citizen Kane

Citizen Kane is the story of one of the wealthiest men in the world and his gradual fall from fame and finally to his death where he utters one of the silver screen’s most famous lines – “Rosebud”.

This “Rosebud” perplexes the reporter covering his life’s story that he goes out to discover what Kane meant by that strange word. The entire movie shows the reporter interviewing his friends and coworkers telling the story of Charles Kane’s life. The movie comes to a crescendo at the end when the meaning is revealed, but not in the way expected, which brings in the beauty and message of the entire movie - simply genius.

Female reporter: “If you could've found out what Rosebud meant, I bet that would've explained everything.”
Thompson:” No, I don't think so; no. Mr. Kane was a man who got everything he wanted and then lost it. Maybe Rosebud was something he couldn't get, or something he lost. Anyway, it wouldn't have explained anything... I don't think any word can explain a man's life. No, I guess Rosebud is just a... piece in a jigsaw puzzle... a missing piece.”

There are several reasons why this film could hold its own as one of the best films of all time:

• One reason is the cinematography. The methods used in this film were innovative for the time, since it was still black and white. This was also the first feature film of Orson Welles who was the film maker and lead character, Charles Foster Kane.

• Another reason is the message. The ending so beautifully ties in the rest of the story that it makes you sit back amazed at what you could actually learn from the film, as long as are looking.

• Reason number three is great acting. Orson Welles did a fantastic job portraying Charles Kane and many of the other side character were quite impressive as well.

In conclusion, Citizen Kane is a film that not to be ignored. While I don’t believe that it is the “Best” movie in existence, I do know that it is one of them and will continue to set the standards with the other greats of classic Hollywood for many years to come. I encourage you to go watch and be amazed!

The Wall

Have you ever experienced the feeling of hitting a wall? Ok, so not a literal wall, but figuratively. Or perhaps the sensation of being at a crossroads and every direction is clouded by dense fog? So dense that you can barely see the signs for each direction. Well, if you have then I can relate. I'm there now and it's all hit me within about 30min. to an hour.
While registering for classes, I hit a big speed bump. I was planning on taking classes next semester, doing an internship in Washington DC for the Fall, taking classes in the Spring and then graduating in May. Well, it hasn't worked out so dandy like I thought. I just realized that it might possibly take me longer than expected and I'm already a year and a half behind.
It's in times like these when my path seems so far away and I'm standing at an intersection staring into the darkness and wondering what to do and fighting against despair and confusion. But then I remember...
I remember that there is a God in heaven...My Father, who is watching over my life and is not surprised or astonished about what's going on. He's never let me down. He never will. It's times like these that make me grateful, because they cause me to lose myself and rely on Him alone for sustainment.
I once heard a story about how God is like a watcher over a maze and we are stuck in the middle of it. We search and run around in confusion trying to find our way to our destination, but God is watching and can see the whole maze and knows the way out. All we have to do is trust in Him and become dependent on Him alone.
God's brought me farther then I could ever imagine and He's not through with me yet. I trust Him to bring me through and to hold me in His arms, telling me that all will be well. I'm at peace knowing that even if it takes me 10 more years to get where I need to be, I'll get there, because unless I'm in God's will, then it's all for nothing anyways. So here I stand, at peace in the confusion around me, looking to my Father who will see me through. I trust Him.

I encourage all who read this...look to the Father. He's waiting and more than able to see you through any of life's difficulties. He is good! Proverbs 3:5-6

Until next time,

Britt

Fluffy

Ever see something so cute that you just want to eat it? Well I have...Now, don't call PETA and have them placing me under a lawsuit, because I'm broke. No, in all seriousness, I just love it when I wake up in the morning or come home from school/work and seeing my fluffy little dog named Lacy. Oh sure, she barks at any noise and stares when you eat, but I still love her anyway. One of the great things about having a dog is that they love you unconditionally. No matter how nasty I look or how bad I feel, Lacy is always excited to see me and anxiously wait for a treat or curl up in my lap while I do homework. Anyways, just wanted to let y'all know how cute little Lacy is.

Until next time...

P.S. For PETA...I love animals, they are delicious.

Home again, Home again...

Well...like my post title says...I'm finally home again! Thanksgiving break has finally arrived and it feels so good to be home! I seriously haven't been home since the first of October and it's been longer for other girls on the hall. I love the sights, sounds, smells and just the feel of being at home in NC. Simply being home with my family and our dog, Lacy is enough for me. Why, just last night, as I was taking Lacy for a walk, I stopped and took in a nostalgic moment. The night air was crisp, but I was still warm wrapped up in thick coats and a beanie. I looked up and there wasn't a cloud in the sky, and I saw a myriad of beautiful stars glittering against a dark backdrop. Nights like last night brought back so many memories, some good, some not so good. The not so good memories made me think of years ago when I would be walking the dog at night waiting on a phone call from a bad decision of relationship. Thinking of that time made me shutter, but it also made me glad that I have a relationship with a God so merciful and loving, that He delivered me from 2 years of heading in the wrong direction. Thinking of His goodness and love for me, made everything alright. As Lacy began to tug at the leash, I began to head back cold outside, but warm inside, as I looked towards my house filled with a loving family and blessings that I'll always be grateful for.

Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!

Until next time...

Superheros Galore

Ok...I was watching a movie with some of my dorm buddies, and I realized something...I now know who my two favorite superheros are! Now I know what you're thinking...nerd...well, yeah, but don't hate. I'm merely...um..unique. Yeah, that's it! Anywho, I think superheros are pretty cool, and have thought so since I was a kid. Superheros depict our inner longing for two reasons. One because we want to be like them. (I mean who wouldn't want that awesome utility belt that Batman has, Wonder Woman's lasso of truth, or Aquaman's unique ability to...talk to undersea creatures?!) (Seriously the guy is not a real superhero...I'm convinced, because everytime I look at him I think of Mermaid Man from Spongebob and E.V.I.L. haha) And Teo, because I believe superheros although flawed, point to our desire and need for a Savior, Jesus Christ...the Ultimate Superhero. Woah. Back on subject.
My favorite Marvel superhero is Iron Man. I'll admit. I never really knew much about him before the movie, but he's pretty amazing. The suit is something I would love to have in my wardrobe. Also the ability to fly at supersonic speed and blow up huge tanks with a tiny missile on your arm! Tony Stark's character is great too. He's witty and has a sense of justice and defending those his weapons once destroyed. Good for you, Tony...Can I have that old prototype you're not using?
Finally, my favorite DC superhero...no surprise...is the one, the only...Superman! I mean, he's it. How can you not like Superman?! He's the epitome of Truth, Justice, and the American Way. He stands in defense of the innocent, is selfless, and is a bright light compared to the dark vigilante-ness of Batman(who is cool in his own right.) Not only does Superman fight for justice, but his alter ego, Clark, fights it too with The Daily Planet. Clark, as well, as Superman, also has strength of heart, because of his simple Kansas background, and from what I've heard, a upbringing based on Christianity...it's principles. I'll have to look into that! But anyways, Props to Superman and Iron Man...my favorite superheros. Thanks for reading this incredibly long post...now back to your normal lives.

Until next time, thanks for stopping by...

Fatty Two by Four

Ok, so for the past couple of days I've been tired of being less than fit I shall say. In an effort to fix this problem I've been running/walking/gasping for breath and holding my side, as well as doing random workouts in the dorm like sit-ups, push-ups, lunges, and the like. After all this work, I must say...it hurts like crap, man! My butt muscles are screaming for relief, as well as my appetite for the junk food. MMM...doughnuts, ice cream, fast food,...why do you have to taste so delicious? Why can't vegetables and water be bad for you? It's the things that taste so good that are so bad for you...is this some kind of sick joke?! Anyways, enough ranting, and back to the gym/floor. Good luck all you health junkies out there and could you please let some of your self-discipline rub off on me!

Until next time...I'm Britt. You stay classy, San Diego.

Happy Halloween

Or should I say...happy hallows eve? I haven't celebrated traditional Halloween since I was a kid (trick or treating), so instead I thought I would say Happy hallow's eve. For those who don't know, today 481 years ago, Protestant Christianity as we know it was born when Martin Luther posted his 95 theses on a church door in Wittenberg, Germany on October 31, 1517. We, as Christians, owe alot to this great man of the faith. Sorry to bore with a history lesson, but I personally think that Martin Luther is more important than freaky dead people decorations that do nothing but scare people when they go get candy...ooh wait....candy...hmmm, I may have to reconsider my previous opinion. haha. jk. I did however have some very fond memories of dressing up as a kid. For example, my mom dressing me up as a skeleton when I was like 5, because I was so skinny they couldn't find pants to fit me. That hurts, mom. I still love you though. :) Anywho, have fun everybody, be careful and eat candy until you feel like you wanna puke.

P.S. - What is up with people giving to kids non-brand candy items like pretzels, popcorn balls, random hard candy or candy corn...(yuck! Who invented candy corn?) Please give awesome candy for these cute little kids or they might revolt and throw it back at you, like I wanted to...haha.

Here's a couple of videos to make your day happy:

Ooh....

So, this semester I was really distracted by Facebook, so I got rid of it. However, I miss the opportunity to post my random thoughts about my walk with the Lord, life in general, politics, and of course ramblings on a variety of topics. My roommate Liz has a blog, so I thought I would get one too. I mean, where else could I "write" down what I'm thinking, since I so rarely voice them in real life, except to a certain few. (You know who you are) Now, there will more than likely be things I post on here that some people will not agree with. That's ok...I'll just block you. haha j/k. I've come to terms with that. Anyways, without further ado, welcome to my blog, I hope you'll enjoy it. And now...Let it begin!
